The House and Senate will hold hearings this week to address a number of legislative issues related to fashion and retail—including equality, diversity, equity and inclusion, climate policy and clean supply chains.

Equality. On Wednesday, March 17, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on the Equality Act and LGBTQ rights.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. On Thursday, March 18, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion will hold a hearing entitled, By the Numbers: How Diversity Data Can Measure Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Hearing witnesses include the New York State Comptroller and DiversityInc CEO Carolynn Johnson.

Climate Policy. On Thursday, March 18, the House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on the Climate Leadership and Environmental Action for Our Nation’s Future Act or the “CLEAN Future Act.” The CLEAN Future Act includes provisions on national climate goals, clean energy manufacturing, transportation and environmental justice.

Clean Supply Chains. On Thursday, March 18, the Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing entitled, Fighting Forced Labor: Closing Loopholes and Improving Customs Enforcement to Mandate Clean Supply Chains and Protect Workers. Hearing witnesses include representatives from United Steelworkers, Human Trafficking Law Center, and Sourcemap CEO Leonardo Bonanni.

Copyright + Arts. On Thursday, March 18, the Senate Judiciary Committee will mark up the Artistic Recognition for Talented Students Act “ARTS Act”. The ARTS Act directs the Copyright Office to waive various copyright registration-related fees for works that win certain competitions sponsored by the Congressional Institute and open only to high school students or established by Congress.
