Theaster Gates is a Chicago-based artist, professor and co-chair of Prada’s new Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council — sharing his voice and expertise to global discussions around diversity and culture in fashion.

Creating art and social transformation has always been at the heart of Gates’s work. In 2010, Gates founded the Rebuild Foundation — a non-profit organization focused on rebuilding the cultural foundations of neighborhoods and revitalizing communities, with a focus on Chicago’s South Side.

Gates has received international recognition for his works. His public collections include: the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and Marciano Art Foundation, Los Angeles.

Theaster Gates currently has his first solo museum exhibition in France — entitled Amalgam — exploring social histories of migration and interracial relations by focusing on a specific episode in American history. Theaster Gates’s Amalgam will be on display at Palais de Tokyo, Paris until May 12, 2019.
